Rachel Louise Brown
Artist residencies provide a platform for artists to create new work while inspiring organisations, enhancing wellbeing, valuing community, social engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion.
Photographer Rachel Louise Brown’s interest in gender role play and psychological portraiture was one of the main themes she explored during her residency. She invited employees to collaborate in creating a series of unconventional photographic portraits. Brown engaged a diverse, cross section of participants at the firm, allowing them freedom to dictate locations and props which was an important part of the creative process. Portrait sessions were conducted either on site or at locations outside the office. The complete set of photographs were published as a book titled Phantasy, with texts by the artist, Maggie O’Regan and the chair of the art committee David Isaac. An edit of the original photographic prints was curated and produced as an exhibition and event at the end of the residency with an edition of these works later added to the Pinsent Masons art collection.
